Weight Converter: Kg, Lbs, Stones & Price Calculator
Weight conversion is a daily necessity, whether you are tracking your fitness progress, buying international ingredients, or calculating shipping costs. However, the world is split between two very different systems: Metric (Kilograms) and Imperial (Pounds/Stones).
Welcome to the Universal Weight Converter, a precision tool designed to translate mass instantly and help you make smarter decisions—from the gym to the grocery store.
Understanding the Units
1. The Metric System
Used by 95% of the world. 1 Kilogram = 1,000 Grams. Reference: 1 Liter of water weighs exactly 1 kg.
2. US Imperial System
1 Pound (lb) = 16 Ounces. To convert kg to lbs mentally: Multiply by 2 and add 10%.
3. British Stone
Used for body weight in the UK. 1 Stone = 14 Pounds. A 70kg person is roughly 11 stone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Weight the same as Mass?
Technically, no. Mass (kg) is how much 'stuff' is in an object and is constant. Weight (lbs) is the force of gravity pulling on that mass. However, in daily life, we use them interchangeably.
How do I convert Kg to Lbs mentally?
Multiply the Kilograms by 2, then add 10%. Example: 50kg * 2 = 100. Add 10% (10) = 110 lbs. (Actual is 110.2 lbs).
What is a Stone in weight?
A 'Stone' is a British unit equal to 14 pounds. A person weighing 70kg is roughly '11 Stone'. It is almost exclusively used for body weight in the UK and Ireland.
What is the difference between Troy Ounces and Regular Ounces?
Precious metals (Gold/Silver) use 'Troy Ounces' (31.1g), which are heavier than standard kitchen 'Avoirdupois Ounces' (28.35g). Always check which ounce is being used when buying jewelry.
How does the Shopping Price Calculator work?
It converts price-per-kg to price-per-lb. Since 1 kg = 2.2 lbs, a price of $10/kg is roughly $4.54/lb. This helps you compare deals between different brands or countries.
What is the difference between a Metric Ton and a US Ton?
A Metric Tonne (t) is 1,000 kg (approx 2,204 lbs). A US Short Ton is exactly 2,000 lbs (approx 907 kg). If someone says 'Ton' in the US, they mean 2,000 lbs.
How do I calculate BMI from my weight?
BMI is Weight (kg) divided by Height squared (m²). Alternatively, use the 'Health & BMI Check' toggle in our tool to calculate it instantly without doing the math.
How many grams are in a standard 'Cup'?
There is no single answer! A cup is a measure of volume, not weight. A cup of lead weighs far more than a cup of feathers. For cooking, a cup of flour is ~120g, while a cup of water is ~237g.
What is a Carat in weight?
A Carat (ct) is a unit of mass used for gemstones and pearls. 1 Carat is exactly 200 milligrams (0.2 grams). It is not to be confused with Karat (K), which measures gold purity.
Why do airlines express luggage weight in kg?
Most of the world uses the Metric system. Even if you are flying from the US (lbs), international aviation standards often default to Kilograms for fuel and load calculations.
