The Science of Momentum
Why showing up every single day matters more than how much you actually do.
Don't Break The Chain
Jerry Seinfeld, one of the most successful comedians of all time, revealed his productivity secret a long time ago. He didn't focus on writing good jokes every day. He focused on writing any joke every day.
He had a big wall calendar. Every day he wrote, he put a big red X on that day. "After a few days you'll have a chain," he said. "You'll like seeing that chain, especially when you get a few weeks under your belt. Your only job next is to not break the chain."
This Study Streak Counter digitizes that wall calendar using a professional heatmap, giving you a bird's-eye view of your academic discipline.
How to Use This Tool
Set a Micro-Goal
Define what "studied" means for you. Keep it small. "Read 1 page" is better than "Read 1 chapter" because you can do it even on a bad day.
Log It Daily
Come here every day and click the big check-in button. Watch your heatmap turn green. Seeing the grid fill up triggers a dopamine response.
Use Freezes Wisely
Life happens. If you are sick, don't quit. Hover over the date in the calendar and click the Snowflake icon to freeze your streak.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a "Streak Freeze" and how do I use it?
A Streak Freeze allows you to skip a day of studying without resetting your streak counter to zero. This is perfect for sick days or emergencies. To use it, simply hover over any date in the calendar view and click the snowflake icon. The day will turn blue, keeping your chain alive.
How does the Year Heatmap work?
The Heatmap visualizes your consistency over the last 365 days. Each square represents a day: Grey means no activity, Green means you studied, and Blue means you used a streak freeze.
If I miss a day, is my streak gone forever?
If you do not check in or freeze the day, yes, your 'Current Streak' will reset to 0 the next day. However, your 'Longest Streak' record is saved forever as a benchmark to beat. Consistent tracking is key!
Where is my data stored? Is it private?
Your data is 100% private. It is stored locally in your browser's LocalStorage. We do not have servers, and we never see your data. This ensures maximum privacy but means you should export backups if you clear your cache.
Can I backup or transfer my streak data?
Yes! Click the 'Backup Data' button at the top of the page. This will download a JSON file containing your entire history. You can keep this file safe or use it to restore data if you switch browsers (import feature coming soon).
What counts as a "Study Session"?
That is entirely up to you! We recommend setting a minimum goal, such as '15 minutes of focused reading' or '1 solved problem'. The key is to make the goal small enough that you can do it even on your worst days.
Can I retroactively check in for past days?
Yes. In the 'Calendar View', you can click on any past date to toggle its status. This is useful if you studied offline but forgot to log it on the website.
How long does it take to become a "Grandmaster"?
The rank of Grandmaster is reserved for students who achieve a streak of 100 consecutive days. It requires approximately 3 months of unwavering dedication.
Why is visual tracking effective?
Visual tracking leverages the 'Seinfeld Strategy'. Seeing a continuous chain of completed days creates a psychological need to not 'break the chain', significantly boosting motivation and adherence to habits.
Is this tool free?
Yes, the Study Streak Counter Pro is completely free to use, with no ads or hidden subscriptions.
