Precise File Size Control
Many online forms, application portals, and email services impose strict file size limits. Whether you need a passport photo under 50KB, a document scan below 200KB, or email attachments under 1MB, our Target File Size Compressor gives you exact control.
Unlike basic compressors that just reduce quality blindly, our tool uses an intelligent binary search algorithm to find the optimal quality setting that fits your target while preserving maximum visual fidelity.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I compress an image to exactly 50KB?
Upload your image, select '50 KB' from the quick presets (or enter 50 manually), and click 'Compress Current'. Our algorithm uses binary search to find the optimal quality level that fits your target. If quality alone isn't enough, enable 'Allow Dimension Resize' for automatic scaling.
Can I compress multiple images at once?
Yes! Our Pro version supports batch processing. Drag and drop multiple images, set your target size, and click 'Process All'. Once done, use 'Download All as ZIP' to get all compressed images in a single file.
Why can't my image reach the target size?
Some images (especially small ones or those with minimal detail) have a 'floor' size below which they can't be compressed without destroying quality. Enable 'Allow Dimension Resize' to let the tool shrink the image dimensions, which allows reaching smaller file sizes.
What is the difference between JPG, WebP, and PNG?
JPG (JPEG) is best for photographs and offers great compression. WebP is a modern format with even better compression at similar quality. PNG is lossless and best for graphics with transparency, but produces larger files. For target size compression, we recommend JPG or WebP.
Is my data private?
Absolutely. All compression happens 100% locally in your browser using the Canvas API. No images are ever uploaded to our servers. The tool even works offline once loaded.
What's the best target size for passport photos?
Most passport/visa applications require images under 200KB, often between 50-100KB. Our quick presets include 50KB and 100KB for this exact purpose. Always check the specific requirements of your application.
Will compression reduce my image quality?
Some quality loss is inherent in reaching a specific file size, but our algorithm optimizes for the highest possible quality at your target. For most use cases (web, forms, email), the difference is imperceptible. For archival purposes, keep your original file.
How does the dimension resize option work?
When enabled, if quality compression alone can't reach your target, the tool will progressively shrink your image dimensions (maintaining aspect ratio) until the file size fits. This is useful for very aggressive targets like 20-30KB.
Can I use this for email attachments?
Yes! Many email providers limit attachment sizes to 10-25MB total. Use our 500KB or 1MB presets to significantly reduce image sizes while maintaining good quality for viewing.
What happens if I set a target larger than my original file?
The tool will simply output your image at its best quality. It won't artificially inflate file sizes—you'll get the smallest file that looks great.
